  • REU, NSF Grant #477264. Research Experience for Undergraduates Program - Currently analyzing 550 African chimpanzee fecal samples for intestinal parasites. Using the sedimentation technique, samples are spun down and wet mounts are made for staining. Acid fast and Trichrome stains are prepared to observe fecal parasites. Immunofluorescent assays are preformed using the Cryptosporidium/Giardia Direct Immunofluorescent Detection Procedure. After preparing the samples, I record raw data on all relevant findings, including parasite name, numbers, life cycle stage and size.
